Aliens: Special Edition

I watched this yesterday for the nth time and I got to thinking when was the last time I watched the original version, the version without the early LV-426 events included.

My question is, do the inclusion of the extra originally deleted scenes make the movie better or worse? I like the inclusion of the robot sentries; but I can understand why they were cut in the original theatrical release (add nothing to the plot), but I wonder if the early Newt/Derelict scenes add any value to the story, or if they simply negate some of the suspense and unknown about the Marines first entry into the colony.

Thoughts?

I think if you are seeing the film for the first time the theatrical edition is better, as the Newt/parents scene lowers the suspense.

However if you are rewatching it, the special edition is much better due to the new scenes being present, as you know what is going to happen, and their inclusion adds to the excitement. The robot sentry part was intense when the ammo counter was running low yet the aliens were still coming. Awesome!!!!!!!!!

I loved the sentry part, but I gotta agree with Viperish on the Newt/family part - it does lower the suspense.

The Theatrical Version was the version that got me into the Alien films in the first place. So the theatrical cut is my favorate version out of the two.

Even though i like the Special Edition i agree. I recently watched the Theatrical Cut with a mate of mine, every now and then he was saying "Wheres that bit?" etc etc in the end he said "Thats versions sh!t" He'd never seen it.

Brilliant scenes, only thing that bothers me with those sequences is Hudsons dialogue.

His "Come on baby, come on" and his overal ranting during them scenes just annoy me. Along with the "Well thats a switch" and "Maybe we got em demoralised" lines just ruin them scenes for me, dunno why they just do.

I see. I, for one, quite liked those lines, 'cause Hudson became a cry baby ever since they got raped in the hive so I felt like they fitted. Especially ''Maybe we got 'em demoralised.'' - Hudson was so pitiful that his sarcasm became twice as funny.

His character breakdown after the hive encounter was well done in the theatrical version. The "well thats a switch" i always felt wasnt needed, especialy with what takes place in the next scene. Overall a great character.
