I have a few ideas. Hell I might even write up an actual full out story.
Idea 1: Another team with a similar goal to the Auriga. Recover the Space Jockey weapons.
Instead of going with all that bull shit about cloning from A:R. This team is simply on the search for any and all Space Jockey technology when the come across a planet similar to Mercury only in a much more extreme condition in which the planet is always dead by burning on one side and freezing on the other. The team found the planet at the right time to land on a Space Jockey structure. This structure is huge, about the size of city. Inside is basically a facility for launching Derelict ships filled with Xenomorph eggs. The Derelict ship from ALIEN was a test run to see how far the Xenos could be contained. Clearly shit hit the fan since it crashed on LV-426.
The team eventually unlocks a huge portion of the structure over the course of a few years and eventually they unleash the entire fleet of Space Jockey derelict ships onto the galaxy. The team having no idea what to do can no longer contain the Xenomorphs still being produced (Who knows how) within the actual structure and have to stay alive until they can leave in the ship they came in. This ship is similar to the Auriga so its massive and was capable of setting down a base for the team to stay in to conduct research. That would be part 1. Part 2 would basically follow a few different characters at the beginning of the end of the universe on different worlds and colonies as the Xenomorphs show no mercy. Part 3 would be about humans and other possible humanoid civilizations trying to survive literally in space and space stations hoping that a Xenomorph will never get to them and eventually about the plans to attack back. Thats where it would end.
I came up with this idea because it was a way to make a sequel after Resurrection that had almost nothing to do with Resurrection. It brings new characters in which is the reason A:R was so fucked up because they HAD to have Ripley in the movie. This "epic" scenario also opens up ways to explore the Alien universe as to other species in the universe or just other stories about encounters with the Xenomorphs.
My second idea was an idea to favor the absolute hate of the A:R movie and most of the haters of the ALIEN 3 movie in which they were both dreams after the Sulaco crashing on Earth leaving Ripley, Hicks and Newt in a coma for more than 10 years (explaining why the characters are older by the time this movie is made.) The three characters awake in a Colonial Marines hospital. Bishop was severely damaged and had to be remodeled (to explain Lance Henriksen being older). Bishop was kept near the three survivors at all times at was by programing not aloud to state what had happened until the survivors awaken. Eventually they would wake up the story about the shit hitting the fan would be told and Hicks would eventually request to go back and Ripley and Newt would come to only this time with more than one squad of Marines. This would eventually lead to the popular ALIENS comics books in which Newt and Hicks were replaced with Billie and Wilks because of ALIEN 3.
