Aliens: Colonial Marines

At first, I wasn't going to buy the game due to the crummy reviews. But the heck with the crowd - I love this franchise. I'm currently playing the Marine campaign and enjoying it very much - just like I'd enjoyed the original 1999 AvP.

More later as I progress in the game, but don't let the lukewarm reviews dissuade you - the game is fun. It might not be as refined as a Gears of War or MW2 or whatever, but if you're a fan of the franchise, you'll dig it.

Agreed - I'm beyond excited for A:CM. I was already jazzed about the premise of the game, and then I played Borderlands. A:CM is in very capable hands.

I must say that I am quite pleased with AvP too. I still think the 99 original is better just because that game scared the crap out of me, but this is a decent enough game.

Can't wait to try some multiplayer lol

Personally they should have given the marine campign more thought and made a few more memorable marines instead of just standard halo grunts with no personality you just wander around with from time to time.

This game is one of the best games Ive played in a while (imo). The online I find to be fantastic, team death match is great (especially with alot of people) as well as all the other game modes

The one thing which did disappoint me was the sound of the smart gun. Anyone else think it sounded nothing like in the film?

The smart gun sounds a lot like a real world MG42 and not like it does in the movie. They probably made it that way because in the movie the smart gun sounds exactly like the pulse rifle, I sort of like the fact it sounds like an Mg42 anyways, very intimidating

I guess there is a degree of artistic licence needed to differentiate between the different weapons. The game is not the best in identifying the gun being used by the enamy at a distance, and the task of frontal assault on a Smartgunner is different to that of hitting some guy with a Pulse Rifle.
