Aliens: Colonial Marines

I,ve been reading a lot of bad criticism over there. I,ve even go to read people saying that avp2 was best (LOL), so what is your first impression on this game?, I for one think that this game is going to be a winner as soon as It gets released because the MP has a lot of potential imo, and If the maps are going to be even cooler and with an excellent atmosphere like the one on the demo (shame these new avp "aliens" don,t live up to their own atmosphere and on this this game), then this game could be one greatest of this year, and if It solds well, then we have ACM, the one we all are actually awaiting.

I went in with low expectations and it blew me away. I underestimated how fun it was to walk on all surfaces.

Here's my take on the demo.

I am disappointed and happy at the same time. I think the game could have a bit more spit and polish on it, but also I feel that it could have been a huge failure. The truth is, the more I play it, the more I like it. I think my main problem is that I'm addicted to Modern Warfare 2 and that game is near perfect in my book for a FPS.

Here are the bones I have with AVP:
Graphics: Not bad, but not awesome. With games like Drakes Fortune, MW1 and 2, Forza 3, etc being almost photo realistic, why couldn't they make AVP a little better? This isnt Sega's or Rebellion's first time around the block making a game. Its not horrible, but it just seems to me like they could have done much better. Also, the players on the screen look a little weird running around. They seem to look kind of fake and cartoonish.

Game play: For the most part its ok. I understand that there is a lot going on with all three species on screen at once, but a lot of times stuff is happening so fast that its hard to get a grasp of whats going on. If you have 2 aliens and a Predator on screen at the same time, all fighting, it gets disorienting. The grapple kill move (trophy kill I believe its called) is really awesome to do and watch, except it seems almost every time I kill someone this way, another person is behind me doing the same thing. I once saw 4 players all locked on to each other in this kill mode. I guess thats just what comes with this type of kill though. Not much the game makers could have done with this one except if they were going to scrap it all together. As for the close attacks, I feel as if its a button mashing extravaganza when trying to kill with either the alien or predator. Maybe I just have to play it more and get the hang of it a little better. I dunno.

As for the Marine: The strife movement is a bit twitchy and hard to control at times. I wish the guns had a mode where you could quick shoulder it to get more accurate fire.

Thats about it for my complaints. I think one of the biggest let downs for me was the graphics of the game. I know the graphics dont make a game fun, but it sure would be nice to see a HD alien with superb detail.

Now I know it sounds like I work at game informer mag or something due to my complaining, but I still like the game enough to buy and play. I'm a huge Aliens and Predator fan as many of you are, and have been on edge waiting for this game for a long time. I think that is maybe why I feel that some stuff is not up to par. I guess I was just hoping and wishing for the greatest FPS game in the history of games. I should just be glad that the game is decent. Another problem with myself is like I mentioned earlier. In my mind I set the bar for FPS on the level with MW2.

I'm sure I'll buy the game and play it a lot, but I just wish after years of dreaming about this game and how marvelous it was going to be, I'm just a little let down. You guys can start the flaming now. I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack from this post.

The Demo is good but the mode sucks. I now have a bit of experience while waiting to buy the full game.

man why should we start flaming you?, we all konw that this game has more than one serious flaw, and would have wanted a better avp game.

ACM is perhaps our last hope.
