Aliens CM Release DEPENDS on AVP's Success.

Found this at G4TV.com:

Aliens: Colonial Marines will be released eventually, Sega president and COO Mike Hayes told [Interviewer] in a phone interview last week. It's a question of when, whose answer hinges on another game entirely.

Sega's grand plans for rebooting the Aliens franchise have changed. The Aliens RPG from Obsidian Entertainment was cancelled, while Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines was placed on the backburner and Rebellion's Aliens vs. Predator moved to the forefront. Gearbox continues to work on the squad-based shooter while its future remains in limbo.
Hayes said Sega still hasn't nailed down a release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines because there are several factors at play.

"I think the detail of that [release date] is probably still too early," said Hayes. "What I would say is it's unlikely that we'd launch anything within six months [after Aliens vs. Predator], but probably nine months, eight to 12 months possibly. Though we literally are looking at that at the moment and a lot of is going to depend, as well, on how successful AvP is at the box [retail]."

There's a problem for Aliens: Colonial Marines in this scenario. Sega has a great amount of confidence in Aliens vs. Predator. Hayes said Sega's received more feedback from fans about the release of that game than anything else in its lineup. If Aliens vs. Predator is wildly successful, Sega can move ahead with Aliens: Colonial Marines sooner, possibly even before the end of 2010. If gamers reject Rebellion's shooter, though, Sega could decide to hold off for a while.

"It's what level of 'well' does it do," said Hayes, speaking of Aliens vs. Predator's potential sales, "do we then determine when we want to bring the next one out and then, of course, determine what the third one in the series is likely to be."
Despite the cancellation of the Aliens RPG, Sega is still committed to producing a third Aliens game.

"Oh, absolutely," said Hayes.

The sooner it comes out the better. But I can live with it otherwise just as long as it's still coming out at all.

Yah. I am not expecting anything too special of AvP3. If you see all the AvP games as one you see it as if they are just constantly being upgraded along side of technology. Only there was a increase of time because AvP2 had a huge (As in long lasting) multi-player experience regardless of how unbalanced it was. Anyways, I think AvP3 will be as successful as the other AvP games were durring their time. Maybe a bit more because of the recent movies (Even if they sucked). But the real new experience will definitely come from A:CM.

I hope the tactical experience doesn,t reign over the whole game. If this game is going to be excessively tactical then that,s going to hurt, and will ruin my experience somehow; if this eventually happens I,ll have to rely on avp3 more than ACM. I,d like the squad combat system to be focused on the MP co-op battles this game is supposed to feature, and leave the SP for a lone experience with some buddy support from time to time, not the whole fucking game.

There,s only one way to experience the true terror facing an enemy like the aliens, and that way is going alone against them.

GB had said that we would be able to play solo missions too..., I hope there,s more than just one solo mission, because relying on my mates is not my style, and relying on AI mates would be even worse.

I think avp3 is not going to be more the same, this time avp is going to be a crack regardless of how awful the human aliens are, because if there have ever been awful human alien featured in a game, avp3 warriors win this time no doubts; yeah yeah, they will feature fatalities and such, but they can only be defined as..., AWFUL.

looking forward to see the god praetorian alien and the runner..., they are my last hope.

Sorry to say it but I have a feeling there will not be a Praetorian. We have not even heard whether a Queen will be in the game.

I was referring to avp3 when I said that my last hope were the prae and runner.

Of course there,ll be no prae in ACM, but I hope they add the runner, and I too hope they make It big, not a small rat.

And of course there,ll be a queen, this is "Aliens". Nevertheless, when I saw the DS jockey alien..., the queen is going to look like a runner compared to the A L I E N regarding Its size.

That was the DS game which I think has a totally different view on game goals compared to Gearbox. If Gearbox has a Jockey Xeno I think it will be bulky rather than huge. And do not worry about the size of the Runner, this is Gearbox we are talking about Kings of Accuracy.

do not understimate avp in the gaming world (you can understimate the films anyway, xD). rebellion is the daddy of avp, and his old avp game is still best avp game out there, far superior to Its sequel in terms of atmosphere, gameplay, sound, marine weapons, etc; actually, there has been no better "aliens" game than Rebellion,s avp till date. As I say many times, and I,m sure this is shared with many of you, the only cons I see in avp3 (till now) is the alien warrior..., here is where GB has the chance to make ACM better than avp3, because bringing you the perfect "Aliens" experience is not only a matter of doing It more strategic or trying to re-capture the same atmosphere of the movie (this last thing is critical too anyway)..., the most important thing are the alien warriors themselves, the aliens we saw in the movie (here is where Rebellion has failed with their avp3 imo), and if GB fail on this duty too, I mean, making the warriors as they should be, then the strategic thingy or any other original and fresh thing featured by ACM could not be enough in order to satisfy the need of facing the aliens as they actually were in the films, and I mean, huge and terrific 2,30- 3 meters tall human-like things, with no 1 KM tails or any other ridiculous add-on.

The most important thing in an "Aliens" game should be the warrior Itself (Rebellion has already failed here as we can see in their avp3 trailers) and the atmosphere, just those two things.

The fact that ACM will be more strategic doesn,t necessarily mean that It,ll be more succesful OR better than avp3, It will be the game based off of the movie nothing more. Yeah, lots of us have been waiting for a pure aliens game the hell of a whlie (since we were youngsters), but that is all.

I usually wonder myself what makes a lot of people to think that ACM will be better just because It is going to be tactical. Don,t take It as an offense cause everyone has his own taste, but no one can claim this game will be better because It,s tactical and the other is not. IMO this game obviously had to be played with AI buddies (or co-op human buddies) just because in the film we saw a whole marine squadron facing the aliens, and that,s all people..., that,s all.
